Applications
Pro Gear is recommended for use in front and rear differentials, manual transmissions and lower gear units of marine engines or anywhere an API GL-5 gear oil is specified.
75W-140 Pro Gear Oil Ester Synthetic may be used in Classic Cars, but only if the classic vehicle’s manual explicitly calls for an API GL-5 lubricant. If your classic car has older brass or bronze synchros (common in many manual transmissions), a GL-5 fluid may be too corrosive. It is also quite a thick, heavy-duty weight (75W-140) mostly used in high-stress hypoid differentials.
Do not use this fluid if your classic car’s manual transmission specifies a GL-4 fluid or contains yellow metal synchronizers, as the active sulfur in the GL-5 additive will chemically break down these parts. Always check your service manual to verify the GL rating.
Maxima Pro Gear 75W-140 is specifically designed for transmissions without wet-clutches, shaft-drives, and differentials (including hypoid gears). It is excellent for Harley-Davidson and BMW motorcycle applications, but never use it in transmissions with wet-clutches.
Maxima 75W-140 Pro Gear Oil can be used in dirt bikes, but strictly only for specific applications like shaft-drives, final drives, and standalone transmissions without wet clutches. It is not suitable for the engine or transmission on a traditional dirt bike where the clutch shares the same oil (a wet-clutch system).
The 75W-140 weight provides a robust film layer for heavy-duty snowmobile chain and sprocket wear, often outperforming factory chaincase fluids.
Safe and effective for the front differentials of 4WD snowmobiles or ATV/UTV conversions.
Do not use this heavy 140-weight fluid in transmissions that specify a lighter synthetic (like 5W-30 or 10W-40).
